Action Alert: Child Tax Credit on July 15, 2021

We need your help to spread the word about the expanded Child Tax Credit, which will help provide parents or guardians with extra support to care for their children this year.

Through the Child Tax Credit included in the American Rescue Plan, families can qualify for more money and can receive payments monthly, rather than having to wait until the end of the year. Eligible families will receive $3,600 per child younger than 6 and $3,000 per child ages 6 to 17.

Pediatricians can play an important role in making sure parents know about this credit and any steps they need to take.

New Resources: HealthyChildren.org webpage (English and Spanish) (English and Spanish).

Here’s how! AAP created this handout for pediatricians (Available in Spanish here) to share with parents and families. It explains the credit, who is eligible and what next steps parents need to take, if any. This information is also on HealthyChildren.org.

Payments will start to automatically arrive on July 15 for most families, but some families may need to take action to receive the benefit. More info can be found in our resource.

Please help us to raise awareness of the Child Tax Credit to your patients’ families. If you are on social media, you can amplify this tweet from AAP. You can also learn more by visiting childtaxcredit.gov.

Be on the lookout for opportunities to advocate for making the expanded CTC permanent.

Thank you in advance for your help to spread the word!
