Did you know 40% of high risk children don’t receive the recommended lead testing? This is especially true now during COVID-19 where we have seen an even more significant decrease in lead testing. When COVID-19 cases spiked, lockdowns and day care closures confined young children to their homes, where lead exposure can be particularly high. In Ohio, it is required for all children on Medicaid or living in a high risk zip code to receive lead testing at the 12 and 24 month well visit.
The Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics has educational opportunities for childhood lead prevention to help implement changes in your practice! A journal club (20 MOC Part 2/CME) is now available and an online toolkit will be launching soon! The toolkit will provide information on how to increase lead testing and anticipatory guidance in your practice with interactive modules. There are additional resources available such as a physician resources guide, family rack cards, and more!
